Portraiture Drawing

This class is a complete investigation of portraiture. Learn to realistically convey the character of faces. Lessons include detailed instruction on how to draw anatomically correct head and facial forms, and the practice of taking accurate measurements of the head. As you draw facial features in detail you will build your skills in capturing your subject's expression and character.

Beginning Oil Painting

Figure and Abstraction

This class is designed to invigorate your drawing. Through a detailed investigation of the human body, students will learn how to rebuild the body on paper. With its colorful, marbled effects, batik offers a variety of possibilities for decorating fabric. Batik is made with richly colored dyes and designs painted in wax. Intensive Oil Painting with Kim Mellema

Beginner classes focus on wheel throwing fundamentals. Intermediate and advanced classes allow students to expand their repertoire of forms. Enameling, Open to ages 14+

Enameling is the process of fusing glass onto metal. Enamels are available in a rainbow of colors, as well as small glass 'd2flower'd3 chips and decal sheets. Kinetic Sculpture: Making Mobiles

There is something magical about mobiles. Like living creatures, they move and have personalities; they can be humorous, meditative, or graceful. In this class we will take a look at works of some of the most famous kinetic artists such as Alexander Calder and George Rickey. Students will work with different types of wire and geometrical shapes of wood, plastic, metal sheets, etc. to create their own mobiles. We will explore ways to balance, assemble, and hang mobiles, and students will be encouraged to create their own unique designs. Limited to 6.

Nuno Felting Intensive

Nuno felting is the process of adhering the finest merino fibers to silk gauze through a moisture and agitation technique. Relief Printing

Relief printing came into use about 5,200 years ago in the Near East, when the ancient Sumerians pressed carved stone seals into clay. Learn how to create images with a technique that allows you to print multiple copies. We will experiment with several quick techniques and then concentrate on linoleum block printing.
