Beginning Painting
Ages 9-13
Thursdays, 4:00-6:00pm
In this beginner\'d5s class, students will learn the fundamentals of painting while studying traditional and contemporary painters. Lessons will include color theory and basic techniques such as layering and highlighting. Working from still life, students will learn to break down objects to simple forms, then build in details. This class will provide the knowledge and confidence to tackle painting, beginning with acrylics and progressing to oils.

Watercolor & Design
Ages 9-13
This is a basic class in which students learn to see as artists do. Students will be introduced to different media including pencil, pastel, charcoal, ink and watercolor. Working from nature and still life, students will gain awareness of line and nuance, while developing technical and observational skills. The skills learned will be the basis for a lifetime of art education. Limited to 8.

How to Draw Manga, ages 14+
Want to know how Chobits, Inuyasha and Spiderman are sketched and set into complex adventures? Then this is the class for you. We will examine the conventions in character design, motion, storytelling, and setting. Using basic and advanced drawing techniques, students will create this exciting genre in their own style, while broadening their artistic skills \fs20 . \fs24

This is an exciting beginner class that will teach students the basics of photography. The class will make pinhole cameras and explore Brookline to learn how to observe subjects. Fantasy and Folk, drawing and painting, ages 7-9

In this class students will refine their skills in drawing and painting while populating their worlds with fantastic characters. Working with colored pencil, ink, watercolor, and mixed media, students will learn to accurately render magical landscapes, playful still lifes and mystical figures. Learn to Draw like a Pro, ages 8+
Instructor: Elizabeth Rocha
This fun, yet intensive, course covers basic drawing, with a focus on the figure. Through a series of weekly exercises, students polish their ability to see clearly and to render the world around them. Explore ways of creating space, light and texture, while becoming familiar with figure drawing, basic anatomy, construction of the body, poses and gesture drawing. Limited to 10.

Each week students will look at a new artist or a distant culture, then create their own inspired artworks. This is an excellent introductory class that will excite imaginations and allow students to survey perspective drawing, landscape painting, 3-D collage, pastels and much more! Students will be encouraged to express their thoughts about various works of art as well as develop their own skills and unique style.

Pottery and Wheelthrowing
