[back to Exhibitions]

July 25 - August 29

Taryn Wells is a young artist based in Medfield, Massachusetts whose emotionally powerful and technically exquisite drawings are being praised and exhibited by galleries and collectors all over America. The Brookline Arts Center gallery will present a one-woman exhibition by Taryn Wells entitled “There Are No Others Around Me” from July 25 to August 29, 2008. There will be a reception to meet the artist on Friday, July 25 from 6 to 8 p.m.

Wells’ large-scale drawings examine the “dualities and dark truths” of race in America and the multiracial individual’s challenge to find a place in the complicated world of racial identity. Winner of the Best in Show Award at the Fraser Gallery International Art Competition and the Board of Director’s Choice Award at the Cambridge Art Association, Wells has exhibited her work at A.I.R. Gallery and Artists Space Gallery in New York City.

The Brookline Arts Center is located at 86 Monmouth St. in Brookline.  For more information, call 617-566-5715 or visit www.brooklineartscenter.com. The reception and exhibition are wheelchair accessible.

This exhibition is supported in part by a grant from the Brookline Community Foundation, and the Brookline Commission for the Arts, a local agency which is supported by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency. The Brookline Arts Center is also supported in part by the Massachusetts Cultural Council, a state agency.
