BROOKLINE ARTS CENTER PRESENTS 2007 ANNUAL ART TREASURES AWARDS Dana Brigham and Margaret Langdell are this year’s recipients

(BROOKLINE, MA- October 10, 2007) On Sunday, December 9th, the Brookline Arts Center will honor two members of the local arts community with the 2007 annual Art Treasures Awards. This year’s awards are being presented to Brookline Booksmith co-owner Dana Brigham and BAC faculty member Margaret Langdell. Both women have shown exceptional commitment and dedication to BAC and the local arts scene.

The Art Treasures award is awarded to two vital members of the Brookline community who demonstrate outstanding contribution to the arts. Business leader Dana Brigham — for 27 years, a co-owner of the Brookline Booksmith — began a long relationship with the Brookline Arts Center with a birthday party for her daughter twenty years ago. A few years later, she was elected to the Board of Directors, where she spearheaded community outreach programs and worked on the annual December Crafts Showcase fundraiser. “I have always enjoyed working with creative people like BAC founders Mim and Barney Berliner and all the talented artists who make the Arts Center so exciting,” says Brigham.

The second recipient, Margaret Langdell has been a teacher at BAC for the past seven years. She is a graduate of University of Massachusetts Amherst and the prestigious jewelry program at the North Bennet Street School in the North End. She has worked extensively in jewelry and glass blowing in addition to consulting with museums in both the US and the UK on enameling techniques. Her work has been published in specialty books and periodicals.

“Sometimes we forget to thank people for all the work they invest in the community,” said Brookline Arts Center Executive Director Susan Navarre. “The Art Treasures Awards provide a wonderful chance for everyone interested in the arts in Brookline to get together and recognize the treasures in our midst.”

Traditionally, the honors are awarded at BAC’s annual Jazz Brunch, which is held from 10am to noon. The brunch will feature foods and beverages donated by the Fireplace Restaurant of Brookline and live jazz music from guitarist Tom Pendergast of Cambridge. Tickets are $35 and all proceeds from the event will support art classes and cultural programs at the Brookline Arts Center. Donations may be made in the name of one of the Art Treasures award winners; please contact BAC for more information.
