Press Release - March 8, 2005 - Passion for Pattern
Passion for Pattern by Berde and Libby At Brookline Arts Center Gallery in March
Brookline artists Bette Ann Libby and Evelyn Berde will exhibit their work together at the Brookline Arts Center gallery in "Passion for Pattern" from March 8 - March 30, 2005. Their works bring together kaleidoscopic color and fractured forms into an energetic celebration of life just in time for the New England spring.
Bette Ann Libby has created clay sculpture and ceramic shard mosaics since 1972. Her current work also recombines ceramic shards from beautiful objects into fresh images of daily life. "Mosaics are a way of creating order out of chaos," observes Libby.
Evelyn Berde's canvases construct saturated, bright colors into richly-patterned landscapes and still lifes. The hot reds of an interior recall the Mediterranean world of Matisse, while the cold, dark blue of a forest sky recalls German Expressionist landscapes. Cumulatively, the body of work creates its own unique world, celebrating experience.
An artists' reception with Berde and Libby will take place on Sunday, March 20, 2005, from 2 to 4 p.m. Brookline-based photographer Judy Dernburg will also be present: Dernburg's work is featured in the exhibition Near and Far in the BAC's upstairs photography gallery. The reception is free and open to the public.
The Brookline Arts Center is located at 86 Monmouth Street, Brookline, one block from the St. Mary's stop, on the MBTA Green line. Gallery admission is free. Exhibition hours are Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
